found board at 1st beach

I talked with a few guys @ 1st beach westend who found an LF twintip (looked new part clear paintjob showing woodcore but no name or address) washed up this afternoon. He wouldn't give me his phone number. Said he was going to post it on Craigslist. I said somebody lost it and is looking for it so I suggested he post here. I hope they do the right thing but not much else I could do; they weren't about to hand it over.

After months of regularly looking, the board surfaced on craigslist. The seller was a few blocks away from where the board washed up on 1st beach. I met with the seller and explained that it was the board I lost and offered him a reward, unfortunately the 'reward' he wanted was far more than what I was willing to pay (I could get a alternate board for cheaper). The initial asking price was more than I paid for it new! Talking to the seller, it is clear that he is not a kiteboarder and he eventually admitted that he picked the board up on the beach.

He has since pulled the listing but I am posting a screenshot of it here in the case he re-posts it down the road, I would hate to see someone else buy this board without knowing the history behind it.

As I was leaving, I told the seller my original reward offer still stands so maybe he'll realize my reward is reasonable compared to trying to offload this on his own and is the moral thing to do.

but he took it from beach as it named him as thief and he should forget about reward or karma would be his bad impact

Obligations of Finders

The finder must try to locate the true owner and care for the chattel in the interim because one is liable for the chattel until returned to its owner or prior possessor. If the finder does not return the thing upon request of the owner, the finder may be liable in the tort of conversion and be ordered to pay damages. No reward is owed to the finder and the finder cannot retain possession of the thing awaiting reward or for reimbursement of expenses.
