I ordered one of these to try out as a day bag: http://www.dakine.com/p/kite/kite-bags/wedge looks like a good option. I'll let you know when it arrives if it fits modern full sized boards.
I'm also looking for a good roller travel bag. I'm sure you are too. The Dakine world traveller seems to be the most common choice, but having traveled with one a bunch I find it too heavy and no good if you want to bring more than one board. Apparently the Cabrinha bag doesn't fit Agueras or Mikeslabs (dumb). Has anyone seen the North XL bag? Is it wide enough? http://northkites.com/public/content/pr ... x_eng.html Any other suggestions?
I have seen the wedge bag and it does fit the box rule boards. I am 95% sure on ordering one but the only negative is that you can't zip it up with fins on an is really only for day use.
Perhaps this is easily fixed by a seamstress and some Velcro though....
With a board and a couple kites are you able to keep the world traveller under 50 lbs? .
nope. not with fins. I think Colin weighed the DK_WT and said the bag alone is 20lbs+ A board is 11 to 20lbs + straps + fins, but you realistically need to add at least 5lbs of extra protection too. Each kite is 8-11lbs dry (not including bag & bar). So you run out of space very quickly, but mostly it's an awkward fit and the bag itself is too long for some airlines.
There is also this for a day bag - http://www.mysticboarding.com/products/ ... p?pid=1373 but nobody seems to stock them yet. We could maybe get some copies made somehow which fully unzip 3 sides and with fin slits. I'd be in if someone wants to coordinate. Didn't Kevin find a supplier?
Nicely sewn fins slits would be way better then duck tape ones... I want a hard shell, bullet proof, pelican case with foam inside! Oh and it can only weight 5-10 lbs. If someone finds a good day bag, I would get one too.
For travel bags. I was in a bit of a bind trying to get my gear back from maui so I went into Neilpryde and got the Heavy Duty Multi bag double size 250 x 70 cm - Freestyle. It Fits Alexes boards as well as a couple kites and gear. My board was perfect getting back. No dings. On top of all this West Jet just charged me for another bag ($40) to get it home. http://www.neilpryde.com/board-bags/pro ... -bags.html
sweet! good luck for you on the no extra fees bruddah!
Andy - yes, I'm in. and yes, fin slots please (ideally to fit both Aguera and Mikeslab if it makes a difference). You can also count Stef in. He doesn't go on forums though.
I think a perfect rectangle where the whole top side unzips on 3 sides (with fin slots) is the way to go. then you just sit the over over the up-side-down board, flip it over and zip up. done. and no wrestling to get the fins seated.
Great ideas on both the "2 stage Travel bag" and the 3 sided opening to assist with fin sizing.
He seems a bit concerned on ensuring the fin slots will work but I think that with the 3 side opening on a bag similar to the below picture (But Rectangular) would fit our needs.
Also asked him about the roller bag as it would be awesome to have a integrated "day bag" for once you get to an event.
His initial quote was US 145 + 20 for shipping to Pt Roberts but we shall see how it progresses as i don't think we need something quite as gucci as Kevins.
Does anybody know how much the Mystic bag sells for?
Count me in for the bag too. Kevin mentioned that there was an option for a heavier material that would offer more protection. Bit more weight but maybe plane safe.
I think maybe 3 long fin slits right from the back with velcro (maybe you can measure approx position from your board Andy - I don't have my boards yet to do so). If anything, put them a little closer to the rails, then add a little extra fabric width to the bag so we can bunch it a bit to work for all current and future boards.
Got final confirmation from the bag manufacturer today. He unfortunately doesn't do wheels as there is simply too much labour involved. so unfortunately the "airline shell" won't be possible at least with wheels.
Idea is to get something similar to Kevins below but rectangular so it fits all Box-Rule boards. I am working on getting the Fin Slots to work for both Mikes Lab and Aguera boards. the bag will be zippered on three sides to allow for easy opening and closing with the fins installed.
Material: Currently same as Kevins (For Below Cost) with the reflective bottom which should be great for day use and potentially air travel with some additional protection.
We could also up the size and padding to make it more of a travel bag with room for a kite or two....
The Cost will be $145 for the Day Bag, $20 for the Fin Slots, $20 for shipping to Point Roberts (I can pick up and bring to the spit or wherever...) + Duty/Taxes There is no minimum order as he advises he can't really do any volume discounts so if people want anything different i.e. thinner or thicker padding I am sure thats possible. Timeline is approx 3 weeks lead time + Shipping ( I have asked him to earmark us in so would like to get on this sooner than later.
I have started a list below 1. Andy - Confirmed 2. Kyle - Confirmed? 3. Chris - Confirmed 4. Colin - Confirmed? 5. Mark - Maybe 6. Kevin - Confirmed
That leaves us with Grant,Don and James that possibly want to be included as well? am I missing anyone?
