Foil boards Cost etc

Thanks for the feed back I currently use a Mako King and have been trying to ride it as a directional with moderate success so far. Perhaps I will use this summer to get that skill set a little better first and then think about going to a foil later. As my skill set improves maybe I will rent one and get an idea of the learning curve.

Renting will be a problem. I used to let anyone try my old Carafino foil because I thought it was rugged (it wasn't). Now that I have a top quality Aguera board and Spotz foil I am reluctant to lend it to anyone. (Twice I have done so and my friends put dings in it.) Beginners are very hard on this equipment. So right now there is no easy way to try a foil. Maybe Colin at VKS will set up something if there is demand.

I guess I could always use my carpentry and machinest backgorund to build one for some reason I fear that would make the learning curve even harder

I don't know if a mako king has enough buoyancy to allow you to work on gybes and tacks. You are likely better buying a cheap surfboard off craigslist.

What were the costs on all the Spotz foils you guys did on the group buy? I recall someone saying it was $1200 but I assume that's for foil only. What options are there for boards?

they were more than that, although the final cost is not know until all import duties/taxes/etc are paid.
however I understand that the group buy price will not be available again.

There will be some used foils available in the coming months too as people upgrade/update.

I also know that Airtime now has some of the new Carafino foils for sale for much less. They are the freeride style, and I don't think meant for racing.

not for racing (No Spots performance level needed)but rather just cruising around perhaps in lighter winds!?

I can't imagine a nice kitesurfing day without to FEEL the surface of the sea under my feet, thats why i never use shoes.. Thats why these new foil system boards its like a step to the virtual kitesurfing.. Im in the water since i remember my self, back to 1986 when i start windsurf with materials from wood and polyester .. Old old school.. All these decades i was dreaming for a silky light and loose feeling on the water. My dream come true with kitesurf at 2007. Was difficult for me to start over again.. But worth the effort! I have one and love it, I recently bought a spotz and roberts and am keen to have a go, but could be on my carifino as always, super fun and about 3 days until your up riding it smoothly, I have it for sale too, dave@davenorona.com
