I'm very new to this and could use a hand. I just bought a used Aguera HW and ordered a new set of Tectonics Maui fins for it. I have no screws for the board and though maybe they came with the fins. I had the fins made with a M6 thread pitch. I need to track down what type of head and what length of screw in need? The board looks like it might accommodate a bevel type head, but reading on wind surf fins it all seems to be pan head. Would love to get this thing out soon so could use some help. Thanks
they will all be different lengths because of the shaping of the deck/thickness and the style of the boxes. best to either email Alex Aguera, or the person who sold you the board (typically the bolts stay with the board).
My last Aguara used Panhead Phillips bolts. Can't remember if they were M6 or 1/4-20. On that board the bolts sat into a washer with a plastic ring attached.
If your board has countersunk holes, and your fins are M6 you will want M6 Ovalhead Phillips (Robertson works too but everyone uses Phillips so there is always a #3 Phillips screw driver around to borrow) You can find these bolts at Pacific Fastener on 1st ave. 2 blocks east of Boundary. Call first to make sure they have the lengths you need. You will need to do some careful measurements to get the correct length.
I just buy long screws and cut them down with a hack saw. You need to then carefully file the end to eliminate any damaged part of the thread. You can also buy the screws at West Marine near 4th and Burrard but they are more expensive than Pacific Fastener.
Thanks for the help. After lots of rejection I finally ordered some 80mm from a company in the states and shipped them over night. Had to cut them down, but I'm back on the water!
