Yes, it would be very clean but not interchangeable. At this point I can swap out what ever wears out. The ring fits in the bar perfectly and doesn't touch the line. Kyle showed me the nice taper for the throw line. We can look at the splice for the 3/16 to 1/8 this weekend. Adjustable back lines like kyles would be nice!
Could go with two T 18's with 1/8 line and splice in the trim (1/4 line) for the cleat.
I can show you guys how to do the adjustable back lines. There is also a way to taper 3/16" to 1/8" and it's not too difficult. (or 1/4" to 1/8" or whatever)
Anyone going to West Marine today? Gimme a shout and I'll tell you what to pick up.
Hey guys!! So, here's a question. Anyone tried rigging a race bar to a small kite? like a 7M or smaller? What happens?
I am having trouble getting the bar to work with my smaller kites. And it is getting frustrating and I am starting to feel stupid that I can't figure it out. It may only be me with this issue - the 5th line could be the main problem. I know, real racers never ride 5 lines ...
I just made a 5 line race bar for my 7 Rebel. Its the same setup (bar throw, trim strap adjustment length, purchase, cleat etc.) as my 4 line Ozone, only with a 5th line attachment. Seems to work fine. What problem are you having with your smaller kites?
I'm looking to put together a race bar and had a few questions for those of you that already have.
1) What's a good length for the line that runs from the clam cleat up through the little metal bracket that the front lines attach too. I guess this length will determine how much depower you get out of the system? 2)What type of line are you using to to make the de-power system, extend the leader lines, and extend the depower bungy.
While most racers around here have made their own race bars in the past, you can now buy race bars from most of the big brands. Still, making your own is a good skill to have for customizing and can save money if you already have all the components.
On my 2013 ASV bar, the distance from the cleat to the front line V attachment, when sheeted out all the way, is 20". This is more than enough, I never max out the depower.
For lines, typical high end sailing lines work great. Amsteel, Spectra, Dyneema, etc. are all good. The trim line often has a cover to help it cleat.
Extending a bungy safety line can be tricky. Most people just use a non bungy line. I have in the past ran a thin bungy up the core of an amteel line and it worked well.
