Stupid idea so why ? millions cost for remove 300 m spit road part and other millions cost for new road from terminal to spit cuz double costs cause squamish enenocmic devaste !
"Local conservationist John Buchanan knows his point of view is not going to be popular with some in Squamish, but he wants to be on the right side of history, he says.
Buchanan wants those with the authority, including the District of Squamish, the province and the Squamish Nation, to start to plan long term for the decommissioning of the Squamish Estuary Training Dike, otherwise known as the Spit and the road leading to it..."

On Nov. 9, elected officials voted 5-1 in favour of communicating to the Ministry of Forests their support for the Central Estuary Restoration Project, or CERP, which seeks to remove the middle of the Spit so salmon can swim through to the estuary.
The project is the result of a partnership between the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), the Squamish River Watershed Society (SWRS) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Spit demolition might increase drugs traffic to Squamish and Vancouver which will effect many young lifes. Very sad.

Does the science say that pipeline will help the salmon population grow? I wonder if the science was conducted as diligently as it was when it comes to spit removal. I heard salmon love oil thats why they taste good from a can.
i feel that squamish economic get abit devastating cuz around 2,000 or more than 2k kiters as members won't show up at pub and restaurants lose business ,cause split removed Blame on lady against spit and their bloods on her hand , lol

Adrian Litz 27 October, 19:36 · "Hi folks, just wanted to post this b/c i think it is a really important point to bring up to the Navigation impact assessment comments. Removal of the spit will create a 300m submerged ledge or weir, when the Squamish river current flows over this submerged ledge there is high potential for the formation of a deadly hole or hydraulic. See the common description from Wikipedia below that describes the exact situation that the spit removal will result in. It will be very similar to the “low head dam” described in the article which is extremely dangerous. I am a white water paddler and am familiar with this type of hazard, a 300m wide keeper hole is a terrifying thought….if you are commenting on the navigation impacts please include this info. The hazard is huge as everyone will likely try to access the spit along the existing alignment and every craft crossing to the island will be subject to this objective hazard (that will likely change intensity and shape with tides and water levels, making it difficult to assess). Cheers all Holes Edit See also: Swiftwater rescue and Canyoning Holes, or "hydraulics", (also known as "stoppers" or "souse-holes" (see also Pillows) are formed when water pours over the top of a submerged object, or underwater ledges, causing the surface water to flow back upstream toward the object. Holes can be particularly dangerous—a boater or watercraft may become stuck under the surface in the recirculating water—or entertaining play-spots, where paddlers use the holes' features to perform various playboating moves. In high-volume water flows, holes can subtly aerate the water, enough to allow craft to fall through the aerated water to the bottom of a deep 'hole'. Some of the most dangerous types of holes are formed by low-head dams (weirs), and similar types of obstructions. In a low-head dam, the 'hole' has a very wide, uniform structure with no escape point, and the sides of the hydraulic (ends of the dam) are often blocked by a man-made wall, making paddling around, or slipping off, the side of the hydraulic, where the bypass water flow would become normal (laminar), difficult. By (upside-down) analogy, this would be much like a surfer slipping out the end of the pipeline, where the wave no longer breaks. Low-head dams are insidiously dangerous because their danger cannot be easily recognized by people who have not studied swift water. (Even 'experts' have died in them.) Floating debris (trees, kayaks, etc.) is often trapped in these retroflow 'grinders' for weeks at a time."
