Newbie Nitinaht question re: bears + gloves

Postby Robynocl » Thu Aug 17, 2023 9:12 pm

Hi all! 34f looking to get into the sport and taking a 3-day camp with Elevation at Nitinaht. Wondering what everyone does with their food at Nitinaht campground - are there bear lockers? I have a softtop jeep so storing in the car isn't really an option. Do people cook at their campgrounds? Just curious about general bear safety here and recommended practices! Also curious about gloves - recommended? 3 or 5mm? Thanks!

I am at Nitinat right now. We don’t seem to have a bear problem these days. We store food in plastic bins mostly to protect from crows. There are picnic tables at every campsite and people cook on propane stoves. Virtually nobody wears gloves. Some wear booties but many of us go barefoot. I use a 3/2 wetsuit.
