Taught myself how to kite on the 2012 Cabrinha Vector 12m. Was recently out and noticed it's got two small holes near the leading edge. About 2-3 inches each. It's also been slowly losing air for awhile now, never had to repump it, but notice it has less air in it at the end of a session. It's also got the 2 line flag out system which isn't the safest method out there.
My question is this kite worth repairing? I'll likely get another 12m for safety reasons with a single line flag out system. However i'm wondering it this kite is worth repairing to have as a backup kite, or as a secondary for a friend who might not have a 12m in their quiver.
I'm doubtful that your kite is worth repairing... it doesn't really have much value. Kites do wear out and this could just be the beginning for repairs.. Newer kites are easier to fly and have better safety systems. And I don't think you would be doing anyone a favor by giving it to them unless they plan to make it into handbags.
None of the problems with your kite sound that bad or difficult to repair, so if you DIY the bladder leak repair and have the fabric damage professionally repaired, the repair cost should be a lot less than replacing, and there may still be a lot of flying time left in the kite. But if the kite has spent hours pumped and nose down on the beach flapping in the wind and sun, the leading edge has dozens of bad scuffs/near tears then yes it probably is kaput ( maybe Chris G. has seen your kite and knows its condition ).
So my question on how to decide to keep it or move on is whether or not you still enjoy the way the kite handles or flies ? If you are happy with its performance then I'd say it's worth fixing & keeping. If you want more performance from your 12m than the Vector has, then time to upgrade.
Also BTW it's not very difficult to upgrade a 2-front-line flagging bar to single front line flagging if the Cab IDS doesn't roll the kite over onto its back as it's intended.
