I was at the spit today and the site manager pointed out that some race board riders were practicing tacks in the honey hole. I watched with him and could see the problem. The freestyle riders were coming into the hole fast on a reach, while the race board riders were coming in fast on a beat. A few times the racers were not even aware of the freestyle riders coming in when they tacked and blocked them. This caused a stack up of the normal rotation of freestyle guys setting up to jump.
I think all race board riders should stay out of the honey hole unless there are no freestyle riders in sight. We have lots of space on the water to practice tacks and gybes without the need to ride right in close to the spit in the honey hole area. The freestyle riders have limited flat water space to show off their stuff. Please give them some space.
I know for a fact that I have been close to or downwind at times of the honey hole. I can tell you 9.9 times out of 10 that I know for sure if anyone is around me. I Accutually Look. Its a great place to learn to tack just make sure you exit like you would if you were doing a trick. No Brainer.
