Squamish locals: Stefano, Andy, Mark, Rainbow, Grey and myself are in San Francisco this week to race at the North American Champs. There are also 5 other Canadians registered, making 11 of us total so far.
Stefano(11) and Kyle(15) are really ripping and moving up in the standings after day 2 and I see Andy and Mark and Gray and Rainbow duking it out with the fleet. Good luck to all.
Day 3 finished. Conditions are super gnarly here on a windy ebb tide. The downwind runs are insane. Stef managed a 3rd in the last race yesterday! Now we move on to the final series today, with everyone split in to gold or silver fleets. 66 racers total.
Stefano is in 11th Kyle is in 13th Andy made the cut and is in gold fleet. We are all hoping to move up a few spots.
It looked like a really great event, all I have to go by are these vids though, you guys did great! Can't wait to watch the Canadian National races at Squamish bigtime.
Downwind was the name of the game. 20 minute single lap races. Top mark was at the bridge with the leeward close to fishermans wharf a big test on your concentration skills!
I found the bottom 1/3rd of the downwind incredibly tough with voodoo chop, boat traffic, and other competitors screaming around.
Kyle and I both got a touch close for comfort with the ferries.
We all have a few takeaways to work on before the nationals.
Cool to see Mark win a race in "Heineken" fashion yesterday.

yeah! stoked that Mark got his bullet in silver! nice dude.
it was generally super gnarly all around. None of the photos I've seen even come close to doing it justice... especially at the downwind gate where it was the worst soupy choppy mess I've even seen - and then we're expected to blast through it at 25knots!!!
I definitely had one scary windward mark rounding where I bore off just in time to see the bow of a 100ft ferry pointed straight at me right in the middle of our course!
