I have read plenty on forums that using a bar with a high split point is a no-go for kites that were not designed for it and that basically a low v is good for almost anything. One thing that never seems to be mentioned however is what exactly is considered a "high split point". There are plenty of comments of generalization, such as North having high V lines, but numbers are never given, i.e. how many metres from the bar the split is. I have a 2013 Slingshot bar that has rings for a split point at about 5 meters from the bar. Is that considered high? medium? low? The split point is optional as it is simply a ring that I can choose whether or not to pass the flagging line through so I can either have the split point right where the front lines meet the trim strap, or I can have them 5 m up the line. Would there be any real difference between the two points as far as performance is concerned? I have heard some people saying that higher up is better for structure or better for larger kites. Is there any credence to this? Should I be using the higher split for my 13m kite and low for my 9m and 11m? does it matter?
