I have a Cabrinha Convert that works fine and is in great shape still but the lines of the IDS bar are getting old. Instead of replacing the lines, can I just use the kite with different bar? The IDS bar that it came with is a 2-line flagging system so I know I can't use it with other kites, but is it okay to use a kite that was designed to work with a 2-line flagging bar with a newer bar with a 1-line flagging system?
A bar like IDS or older Ocean Rodeo bars requires a kite that has specially designed bridles. It is dangerous to use these bars with other kites, as the depower won't work right and you won't get the 90% depower they are designed for.
But vice versa, it is fine to use a 1-line flagging bar with these types of kites, as the 1-line flagging is pretty much 100% depower on all kites, they can't fly on one front line. Just make sure all 4 lines are equal length (or if older Ocean Rodeo, they are equal length plus one extra pigtail on rear lines)
Thanks. Seemed logical that would be the case but I definitely wanted to double check before trying it myself. Compatibility chart says it would be a no go but I wasn't sure why that would be. https://www.mackiteboarding.com/news/ca ... ity-chart/
My 2014 switchblade (came with a 2 line flagging bar) works fine on a 2017 single line flagging cab. bar which I prefer. Saw that chart you mention, but I think they may state9 that for legal reasons.
