We are located in China Creek Campground for the summer. We just worked with the city to install a kite beach. The campground is 12k outside of paved road then 6k of dirt road outside of town. The campground has a full set up with hot showers, sewer, electricity and water. We have jet ski rescue support. A HUGE beach, daily THERMAL winds. And its un-discovered so its not busy yet. email if you would like onsite wind updates or more info on how to get here. girlonaboard1@gmail.com
Please post some lovely photos to give us an idea of the kite beach.
China Creek is about 7km away from Port Alberni as the crow flies. So is the typical thermal arrival time in the late afternoon like Port Alberni? Ref:
I have only been there once, a few weeks ago, but can pass on what little I know.
-- similar thermal inflow to PA Canal and Nitinat, but happens a little earlier. I understand peak time is early afternoon. For me, was an odd day where it was 15-20 from 9am onward in PA Canal, so I kited there from about 11-1pm.
-- wind is side-on. A little stronger in middle.
-- fair number of fishing boats out front at start, less as wind increased. I expect boats are zipping past back to PA all afternoon.
-- water was a lot warmer than I am used to (JDF strait), easy 4/3 with no booties. I suspect a shorty wetsuit is typical, possibly trunks on a really hot day.
-- no fee, free parking.
-- didn't see a jetski, not sure if they use one ... the school folks can respond to that.
