KITECLASH V 2017 PRESENTED BY CORE KITES CANADA AND NORTH SHORE SKI AND BOARD
Its that time of year again!( Well, actually the time of year changes every year depending on tides and schedules), but KiteClash is just around the corner. This year's event coincides with the Canada Day weekend, and we have a whole weekend of events planned to make it a Canadian Kite spectacular!! - Friday kicks off with the Canadian Freestyle Championships, where the current Champ Lucas Arsenault will be defending his title. Friday will also see the preliminary KiterCross slalom rounds take place. On Friday evening we will have a welcome dinner at The Joinery, Squamish's newest hangout. - Saturday will showcase the international talent pool in the Open freestyle event. Come out and see some of your favorite international Kiteboarders battle it out literally within arms reach from the spectators. We've had an amazing response from some top level riders this year and are expecting an incredibly talented field to come to Squamish after battling it out at the Triple S event last week!! Kiteclash will also be involved in the Canada Day celebrations all day Saturday in Downtown Squamish with a Beer Garden and Demos. The evening party will be at the Downtown location with Live Music, Freestyle podium presentations on stage, and Fireworks!!! - Sunday is The crowd favorite BIG AIR SHOWDOWN with riders literally flying high above the spectators. Riders are judged on style as well as height and CROWD RESPONSE. Its always a good time for everyone. This will also be the scheduled day for the Kitercross finals.
There will be a Beer Garden on site at the spit with Beer provided by Squamish's newest brewery Backcountry Brewing, as well as food from Carpe Diem Greek food truck. Lewis Crathern will be back to compete and entertain everyone on the microphone, and DJ MyKey will be spinning tunes!! Shuttles (LIMO BUS!!) will be running all weekend to the spit from locations around town. Please use the shuttles if you can, it really helps eliminate the congestion and parking issues!! Locations and approximate times will be posted on the FB page https://www.facebook.com/KiteClashSquamish Likely the best place for most people here will be the Fraserwood Parking lot just North of the spit turnoff and just south of the train museum. We will have a sign in front of the parking lot. We could still use a bunch of Volunteers for this event, and if there is anyone out there with a class 4 licence we have a paid position available. If you have a Serving it Right certificate we need you! Please everyone, be respectful of each other and the environment around the spit. Our access is a privilege, and we are there for a good time! The Dsitrict of Squamish has asked us to reiterate [b]that camping is not permitted at the spit[./b] Please use the garbage and recycling containers provided. We have long days this time of year, so there should be kiting opportunities for everyone that weekend for everyone if patient. If you are a beginner kiter or not comfortable launching and landing in crowded zones, maybe enjoy the show and get stoked to go out later in the evening or hook up with one of the schools to get out in the open water.
Hey everyone, Steve from Kiteclash here. Hopefully by now everyone knows about the amazing event we have happening at the spit this weekend. Everything is looking great with good wind and weather on the way! Just wanted to point out a few updates for everyone coming out to compete, watch, and enjoy the kiting.
- There is NO overnight camping allowed at the spit. This is a District of Squamish regulation in accordance to the lease with the SWS. The district has also asked us to let everyone know that they will be enforcing this weekend. - We are offering shuttle services all weekend long from various points along the spit road north of the yellow gate. Please park respectfully, and enjoy the ride.Parking beyond the yellow gate will be very restricted, and we need to maintain emergency vehicle access. - All competitors should be dropping off gear BEFORE 10 am, and then parking for shuttle. - The spit is open for public kiting, but please respect the competition areas. Long days will mean some nice kiting after the events, so consider a evening session. - Please drive SLOW along the spit road. There will be people walking. riding bikes, and waiting for shuttle rides. The dust is very bad right now!! - PLEASE, please, please don't drink and drive!! Use the shuttle and enjoy the vibe!!
