There is plenty of kiteboarding within an hours drive from Vancouver. During the summer Squamish has very reliable wind and during the spring and fall we also get some good days in the City and at Boundary Bay. Click on Getting Started and Local Map at the top of this page for information.
Squamish usually has steady wind for a 9m kite while the other spots gnerally require a bigger kite like a 12m.
There are dozens of us hydrofoiling here (it is mostly all I do). We had an active racing scene for several years but it seems to be less popular now Mutuelles senior.. lately nobody has stepped up to organize events.
Hope this helps.
